Autumn is near

Last weekend I used being up early in the morning, and went for a long walk to the Arboretum Volčji potok. It helped that I didn’t have a car for the day, and I walked there. According to Google it’s 6.6 km one way. A nice distance, and very managable as the route there is pretty scenic. I started off when the fog was still there, and the day just got better and better. Almost there, the view suddenly appeared. No longer under the tree shadows, the mountains came into view with some patches of fog lifting, and made the day very promising.

I left home without having a breakfast, as I was planning to have a bite at the botanical gardens. There’s not much there, just a small cafe serving treats. And the chocolate croissant was a treat. In case you’re wandering, the extra cup of milk was for the baby, not me.

I didn’t stay long there, as I was in a hurry to make it home on time for lunch. On our way out of the botanical gardens, I took more photos. I was a bit surprised to see the turtles sunbathing, as I haven’t seen them before. Well, they were partly hidden in the tall grass by the pond. It wasn’t hard photographing it, as it hardly moved while I took shots from various angles.

Although green was the predominant colour, autumn colours were already showing in some parts of the park. I’m definitely going back soon to see more of the changing colours.

On the way back I passed this old water mill, and I had to take one more picture.

Changing routine

The last month was pretty much based on routine. Feeding, changing diapers, trying to have a nap, and going for walks with the stroller. These walks were really nice for the first couple of days, when I was enjoying the warm sun and discovering the new neighbourhood.

Since the weather turned to worse, the usual walk by the Kamniska Bistrica is less picturesque. To break the routine, I went for a walk in Tivoli Park in Ljubljana, about 20 minutes driving. It’s a bit extra walk to pack the car with the stroller and baby seat, but it was worth it. The change of environment was good, and I managed to take some photos with my phone.

The only thing missing was a cup of hot tea from the caffe by the pond, which is unfortunately closed during the winter months.

Offline mode

A lot has happened in the last 3 weeks, the most important being the birth of my baby boy. A week after that, we moved apartments (a tip to all soon-to-be-parents, don’t plan a move with a baby so young, as it’s exhausting). We’re finally enjoying each others’ company in our own place, and the fact we have daily meals on a plastic table is the least disturbing. In the first few days, I couldn’t find enough time to write, and in the last two weeks we were in an offline mode, because of administration changes of our internet provider.

Mean while, I was so busy I hardly noticed it’s autumn. A little later than usual, but it’s here. It’s been raining a lot last couple of days, and the temperatures dropped a bit. However, the long walks I’m enjoying with my baby by the local river have a lot to offer. The trees are coloured and they seem to change every day. What a perfect way to see life changing!

Autumn colours

Autumn is here

Despite the unusually high temperatures for this time of year (20°C), autumn is here. Yesterday, I had a walk through the Vintgar gorge close to the Triglav National Park. It wasn’t my first time there, but seeing it in lovely autumn colours was a nice experience. We topped it off with a short ascent to St. Catherine church with a beautiful view of the valley below. It was my first time there, and I wasn’t familiar with the pathway leading back to the starting point of the gorge. While descending we passed sheep and cows on the pasture, and enjoyed a view of sunshine through the clouds. A day well spent!
